Tutoring Related Questions
How does my student enter the virtual environment?
When students first join the tutoring session, they are directed to a virtual waiting room. The tutor will open the class at the scheduled start time and students will automatically enter the virtual classroom environment.
If your student is unable to enter the class after a few minutes past the start time of the session, please reach out to the coordinator at your school to let them know you were unable to enter the session. There may be a technical issue preventing either you, or the tutor from accessing the classroom, and we'll work to address it prior to the next session if we are unable to troubleshoot during the current session.
Who do I contact if we receive an error message and my student is unable to enter the virtual classroom environment?
If you receive an error when trying to enter the virtual classroom, please try these support suggestions to resolve the error.
If your student is still unable to join the virtual classroom, please contact the coordinator at your school or district. The coordinator will help Littera to troubleshoot, identify the root cause of the error and resolve the issue.
Who do I talk to about questions regarding curriculum placement?
Assessments and curriculum placements are completed by representatives of your school or district. If you have questions or concerns about your student’s placement, please contact the coordinator at your school or district. We will work together to ensure the content is an appropriate match for your student, and adjust accordingly.
What happens if a session is canceled?
Tutoring sessions may be canceled for a variety of reasons. In the event a session is canceled, the session will be removed from the student dashboard and students will not have access to join the session. We will do our best to provide these notifications with as much notice as possible.
Will my student ever have a substitute tutor?
We strive for consistency in our tutoring programs, and work to ensure your student will have the same tutor for a majority of sessions. There are situations where substitute tutors may fill in for a regular tutor in the event of a planned absence or an unexpected emergency.
You may find more information, such as tutor name, in the session details:
Where is my tutor?
Sessions begin at the scheduled start time, provided the tutor is already in the virtual classroom. Please ensure you've clicked Join Now and are in the waiting room.
If you cannot click Join Now, double-check the next session start time on the Dashboard. It may have been rescheduled.
Does my student need an Epic! account?
Epic! is a digital library used in partnership with the Teachers College curriculum during tutoring sessions.
Students do not need their own Epic! accounts to participate in tutoring sessions. Tutors have Epic! access, can share their screen and read selected texts with students throughout sessions. If you would like to create a free account, Epic! Basic will allow your student to access one book a day. Please contact your school for more information.
There is a homework element built into the Teachers College Curriculum, however, it is optional to complete work outside of tutoring sessions. If activities are not completed, tutors will work on the homework activities with students during regularly scheduled sessions.
