Littera Education is committed to creating, supporting, and sustaining successful tutoring experiences for each student we serve. We believe that every student deserves the care and attention of a great tutor. We know that students and tutors work best, achieve their educational goals, and derive the most benefit from tutoring when they interact in an atmosphere of mutual respect, support, and cooperation.
Student Behavior
Students working with Littera Tutors will:
Treat tutors and fellow students with respect.
Be attentive and cooperative during the tutoring session.
Use appropriate language during sessions.
Support the learning of fellow students in the tutoring session.
Strive to learn by actively participating in tutoring sessions
Use technology appropriately.
Behavior
Resulting Action
Level 1: Distracting and/or disrupting the session.
Examples include:
Interfering with lesson materials
Distracting other students in the tutor group
Off-topic chats
Talking over students/tutor
Walking away without warning
Inappropriate language not directed towards the tutor or other student(s), or that tutor is able to handle
Inappropriate whiteboard annotations
First Offense:
The tutor gives a verbal warning to the student(s) and locks the whiteboard if needed.
Second Offense:
The Tutor gives a verbal warning to the student(s) and submits a ticket to Support
Littera informs the district Behavior Contact of the incident and that subsequent offenses may result in student tutoring pause
Subsequent Offenses:
Tutor gives a verbal warning to the student(s) and submits a ticket to Support
Littera informs the district Behavior Contact of the incident and resulting action:
Littera temporarily removes the student(s) from upcoming sessions.
The district follows up with the student(s) and informs Littera of a plan to address behavior going forward.
Littera reinstates the student(s) in sessions.
Level 2: Treating tutors and fellow students with lack of respect.
Examples include:
Inappropriate language used in session/chat directed towards the tutor or other student(s)
Inappropriate media uploaded/shared to session
Multiple Level 1 events
First Offense:
Tutor gives a verbal warning to the student(s) and submits a ticket to Support
Littera informs the district Behavior Contact of the incident and that subsequent offenses may result in student tutoring pause
Subsequent Offenses:
Littera informs the district Behavior Contact of the incident and resulting action:
Littera temporarily removes the student(s) from upcoming sessions.
The district follows up with the student(s) and informs Littera of a plan to address behavior going forward.
Littera reinstates the student(s) in sessions.
Level 3: Threatening behavior towards tutor or students.
Examples include:
Verbal threats made in session
Threats written in chat or whiteboard annotation
Physical threat made toward other student(s)
Racist/homophobic/xenophobic/discriminatory remarks or behavior
Zero Tolerance
Littera informs the district Behavior Contact of the incident and resulting action:
Littera removes the student(s) from sessions indefinitely.
Student Unknown
If the tutor cannot determine which student committed an infraction:
Infraction-level conduct from a student, but specific student in room cannot be determined
Examples include:
Tutor hears remark, but cannot determine if it was one of the students they are tutoring or another in the same classroom
Tutor can hear an altercation between their students occurring off camera
If behavior would be Level 1:
The Tutor will inform Littera and use engagement strategies.
If behavior would be Level 2:
The tutor informs Littera and gives students a verbal warning.
Littera informs the appropriate school/district contact.
If behavior would be Level 3:
The tutor informs Littera.
Littera informs the appropriate school/district contact that tutoring for all students in the session is on hold.
The district follows up with the student(s) and informs Littera of the plan to address behavior going forward
Sessions resume.
Student Safety Concerns
If a Littera Education Tutor witnesses (or if a student discloses) a safety concern:
Littera Tutors follow our Internal Student Safety Reporting Policy and reports any incident which meets our reporting criteria to the appropriate state protective agency.
Littera informs the appropriate district contact of the incident and that a report was made to the appropriate state protective agency.
Tutor Behavior
Tutors working with Littera will:
Treat each student with respect and understanding.
Establish supportive and respectful rapport with each student.
Attend to each student’s individual needs and create and deliver tutoring sessions to assist each student in advancing their skills.
Engage students in the learning process.
Recognize and support the learning value of mistakes.
Foster student ownership of their learning.
Provide tutoring of the highest quality.
Behavior
Resulting Action
Level 1: Tutor is in the session for less than 15 minutes
Examples include:
Starting session late
Ending session early
Frequent disconnections
Device issues
Camera/microphone off during session
First Offense:
Littera tracks these instances independently and reaches out to tutors to discuss the incident.
Session status may be updated per client request.
Subsequent Offenses:
If the tutor continues to have attendance issues, they will be permanently replaced.
Session status may be updated per client request.
Level 1: Tutor lack of communication
Examples include:
Failing to respond to messages from Littera by the response time requested, or at most within 24 hours of receipt of the message, barring unforeseen circumstances
Failing to reach out to Littera within 24 hours in the event of an impacted session, such as a missed or late declined session
First Offense:
May result in session series reassignment
Subsequent Offenses:
May result in tutor offboarding
Level 2: Session inconsistency
Examples include:
Missing 2 sessions within 1 week, or in a noticeable pattern
Missing sessions during initial launch period
Use of non-curriculum educational materials
Multiple Level 1 events
Excessive free time/breaks
First Offense:
Littera tracks each missed session independently daily and reaches out to tutors regarding the incident.
If the tutor doesn’t respond, they will be subbed for their next session.
Subsequent Offenses:
If the tutor continues to have issues, they will be permanently replaced.
Level 2: Professionalism with internal teams
First Offense:
Noted internally
Subsequent Offenses:
May result in tutor offboarding
Level 3: Not adhering to session standards
Examples include:
Allowing students to leave early
Non-educational materials used during session
Tutor environment concerns
Showing a lack of patience and understanding
Inappropriate/ unprofessional discussion topics for a classroom setting
First Offense:
The tutor is permanently replaced.
Level 4: Displaying unprofessional behavior
Examples include:
Using inappropriate language
Sharing unauthorized content or materials
Zero Tolerance
Littera permanently replaces the tutor for all future sessions.
The tutor is offboarded.
Littera informs the appropriate district contact of the incident and resulting action.
